Hopes for 2013 {cute photo}

We don't do resolutions since our next breath isn't guaranteed. But we certainly have hopes and dreams for the New Year ahead, we wouldn't be human if we didn't. Some are important, others less so. I am a list addict which helps my 'disorganized by nature' self stick to things. I am sharing our hopes for this year, I have a need to see it all written out and hopefully some of it is on your list too! It's good to know you're not alone.

I like to set goals high and I don't get upset over not reaching them 100%. To me, working toward a goal is already a victory and any progress is part of a journey. These are in no particular order, just as they came to mind.

  • Separate work and home time: It may not always work, but I need to revamp our schedule. I am thinking of attempting going to bed with the kids at 9 and waking up at 5 or 6 am to work while they sleep. Right now it's not working, I put them to bed and work until 1 or 2 am, then I'm left sleep deprived and generally cranky. My sleep schedule isn't working for me. As I am getting more clients for my business, I will also need to enlist the help of hubby more because I simply will not be able to devote my time to the kids 24/7 when they are awake.

  • Eat Healthier: In our attempt to save Baby E's crumbling teeth, we are sticking with Ramiel Nagel's protocol outlined in Cure Tooth Decay. It will not be easy, it's a drastic change for us, it will take time.  Replacing white flour and sugar with nutrient dense foods like pastured eggs, raw milk and dairy, and grass fed meat. Uhm, yeah. That brings me to the next hope...

  • Grow our Business: I need more clients for AnaB Social to afford the above and to help pay off our debt. Actually, my husband's work has been so unstable, he doesn't know how much longer he will have a job. So this is necessary more than ever. But honestly, my heart is in growing it not because we need the money, but because we want to bless others in need with what we have. There are many organizations we want to support, ranging from orphans and widows to simply clean water wells in Africa.

  • Invest in Faith: This blog isn't really for sharing my faith, but it is such an ingrained part of who I am and how I parent. I may look like 'supermom' on the outside, having and doing it all, when truly it is just the result of my relationship with Christ. Every decision I make is impacted by my faith. Now, I'm not imposing my faith on anyone, but you'll see me mention it in context because I don't want to make it look like my successes are somehow built by my own hands. Nothing is mine, I live by grace daily. With that said, I want my kids growing up seeing hope, faith, and love in action. I want them to see less of the 'mommy is angry' me and more of the 'mommy is patient' me, and I don't have any patience. It's something to decide on each morning, to make a choice for a peaceful household.

  • More time learning: As we are approaching 'official' homeschooling years with Baby E, I need to spend more time with her on reading, writing, and basic arithmetic. We are still believers in child-led education and 'life-learning', but eventually we'll need concrete samples of work for the school district.

  • Tackle the Paper Monster: We have way too many papers that need to be filed or recycled. They are taking over. Even after going 'paperless', there are still a few bills here and there that are mail only. The idea is to scan everything and to have no hard copies. That will take years, but we have to start somewhere!

  • Kids in the Kitchen: The kiddos already spend a lot of time in the kitchen with me on a daily basis. But  I often make them play just so I can get things done faster. This year I want to let them cook with me more! Baby T loves being right with me in the carrier when I cook, he needs to see everything or he goes crazy. He's my little chef. Before you know it he will probably be cooking dinner for us! :)

  • More Fellowship: Though we thoroughly enjoy being home as a family, our privacy, our own ways, we would love to spend a little more time with other families, especially like-minded ones in faith. We have many friends, but few close ones - it's those that we are closer to that it would be nice to see more.
The list goes on and on, but I don't want to bore you! I have many home improvement and organization goals, but that require it's own post because this house needs a ton of work!

What are your hopes for 2013? Is there anything particular you would hope to see more of on Eco-Babyz?

  1. Great goals, i know i need to set some goals for myself. I know i have these ideas and desires but as they year goes by i can only stick to that so long.
Eat healthier is on everyone's list. Speaking about kitchen i spend more time in the kitchen than anywhere else, and sometimes i think its not so good, but making food from scratch takes time and dedication.
Reading with kids and sharing faith is such an important part of our daily life. It makes a big difference in our family.
Separating work and home time is such a challenging thing to do, for me waking up earlier, doesn't work as my 13 month old gets up with me and i wish i would of slept longer. Going to sleep late wokrs better but then knowing i can't sleep in is another challenge to concur.
You are doing a great job, no one is perfect even moms out there who seem like got it all together, because in real world they really don't.

    1. I know, I feel like I live in the kitchen. I forgot to put this on the list, but one of my goals, not just for this year - is to live in the moment! I am always thinking of the next thing to do (and it is necessary for a mom), but I want to spend more time just getting lost in the cooking and creating or in playing with kids. To stop feeling guilty about things I may not get done.

So far getting up early isn't working because I can't get myself to go to bed earlier. Last night baby T was up every 5 minutes, congested from 11 pm until 12:30 am, so much for trying to go to sleep earlier! Today he is sleeping well and I'm working instead! Go figure, it's unpredictable.

I know, on blogs it may seem like moms have it figured out. In real life things are so different.

  3. I don't do resolutions either and I love your statement about not knowing if we're going to have another breath! So true. Also, every day is a day to do better than the last and when you look at it like that, a year can be used to accomplish even more! :) Just found your blog & I am enjoying looking around.

    1. Thank you for your comment Kristi! It took me a few years of parenting to finally get around to attempting to live in the moment, to stop worrying, to take it easy on myself. There is so much expected of us and moms, it's helpful to step back and think about what's most important. I'm no expert, but I love sharing my experiences :) Love connecting with other moms too!

    1. Yes, every year we learn something new - and this past year has been a great learning experience for me! Really earning to live in the moment more and not worry so much, doesn't do anyone any good :)

  6. Hello! First of all, I want to thank you for your wonderful blog! I am a fairly new fan as I just discovered it last week! I wanted to ask you about child-led education and 'life-learning'. I am familiar with the terms, but not what they really mean. Is there any way you can explain it to me? I have a 2 year old that I homeschool and a 5 year old in public school kindergarten, but I am considering pulling him out and homeschooling him full-time. Child-led education and 'life-learning' sounds interesting to me. If replying to this comment wouldn't be enough to explain it, please email me at daisies0999(at)yahoo(dot)com. I would love to speak with you about this. Thanks so much, and keep up the great work with your blog and your wonderful children!

    Take care,
    Tammy

    1. Thank you so much for your comment Tammy! Just want to say it means a lot to me that you took the time to let me know that what I write impacted you :)

Honestly, I am fairly new to homeschooling, but I can point you to some articles by homeschooling moms that have helped arrive at the life-learning approach to education - they say it much better than I ever could!

Here is the first article on homeschooling preschoolers: http://simplehomeschool.net/homeschooling-preschoolers/

Here is another, beyond preschool: http://simplehomeschool.net/curious-about-unschooling/

You will find a lot of great resources on that blog by the way, so browse around. It's not all life-learning and unschooling oriented, but some of it is. Most of all, it's about finding what works for your family - not someone else's. It's about helping your child find their passion and potential, without killing the desire to learn.

Please reply to this comment, otherwise I'm not sure how I will know you read this reply :)

    1. I've been removing a lot of stuff through 2012 (the goal was to get rid of 2012 things but I only got over 1,000). A lot of it was clothing and small things, but I'm hoping to get rid of more substantial larger items this year :)

  8. I am very much with you on the invest in faith and more fellowship. I hope to show more of Christ through what I do and express that it isn't me, but through him that I accomplish what I accomplish. We have also recently connected with families that share our faith and fellowship with them has become more important.
