Viva Labs Krill Oil Review and One Month Supply Giveaway

As we are slowly traveling through our reversing tooth decay journey, I am always looking for sources of mega nutrition for our family. Grass fed meats, pastured eggs, eliminating flour and sugar... We've been taking cod liver oil in January and then I was contacted by Viva Labs (formerly Everest Nutrition) and I thought it would be great to try their Krill Oil and to share our thoughts with all of you.

First, why krill oil? How is it different? Is it sustainable? Here are the basics that you may want to know:
  • Omega-3 fatty acids are in phospholipid form (not triglyceride), i.e. easier to digest and rendering more absorption in your body than typical fish oil
  • Contains the powerful antioxidant astaxanthin (giving the pink/red hue in salmon, shrimp, and krill), which is 54x more powerful as an antioxidant than fish oil
  • Effectually free of heavy metals and toxins because krill is at the bottom of the food chain
  • 50% more omega 3s per serving than leading fish oil brands
  • Fast, effective absorption does not result in fish breath and burps!
  • Krill harvest regulated by CCAMLR, setting precautionary catch limits. Krill being the largest biomass in the world makes it near impossible for it to become endangered, unlike other species
  • Delivered right from manufacturer to ensure freshness

My intention was for Baby E to take the capsules because she is the one with most severe tooth decay. The first time she swallowed one just fine (she is 4 years old, it is recommended for children 6 and up). But she just couldn't do it again after that, she's not very good at swallowing them. I almost cried when it ended up in the trash. Three times. She prefers soft gels and actually chews them, not minding the fish oil taste. I wish there were kid-size gels that would be easier to administer. Here is the size just to give you an idea:

Of course I can take them just fine, and that is so important because breast milk still makes up about 2/3 of Baby T's nutritional intake. I want to give him  better start on teeth, and really all parts of his body, than I did for Baby E. I never took any type of fish oil, cod liver oil, or krill oil when I was pregnant with her or nursing. I wish I knew then what I know now. Baby T loves to play with solid foods more than eat them and there is still no end in sight to our nursing relationship, so I'm glad I can provide him with this nutritional boost for building up a strong immune system, brain, bones, and teeth (among other things). Obviously if he wasn't breast fed, I'm not sure how I would be able to give him this nutritious supplement.*

I work from home every day after the kids are in bed. Not ideal in the sense of lack of sleep, but I do what I need to do. I've noticed that since taking the krill oil, I have less fatigue and I am able to focus more. Of course nothing can make up for a good night of sleep, but it definitely helps!

  3. I learned that Krill Oil has an incredibly powerful antioxidant known as Astaxanthin, the strongest antioxidant in the carotenoid family, that makes itself known in the pink color found in shrimp, salmon and krill, and fights off free radicals that lead to cell damage. "Everest Nutrition Krill Oil has an ORAC value of 431 which makes it 54x times more powerful as an antioxidant compared to fish oil and other nutrients!"

  14. I learned in krill oil the Omega 3s are linked in phospholipid form which is the same structure as the fat cells in the human body. This makes absorption faster and easier since there are no conversions to be made unlike fish oil.
