Being Fully Present

We are so distracted as a nation and especially as moms. Dinner, laundry, errands, food shopping. Gadgets, technology, televisions, smart phones. Inundated with information and advertising. These things can all be good, in moderation, but let's be honest that moderation is something most of us do not have when it comes to technology.

As a mom that works from home and needs access to email nearly 24/7, I'm guilty too. We have no cable. I don't own a smart phone. I don't even have an iPod. But I am distracted as well. My kids race for my attention every day.

I wrote this post a week ago to be published today so that I can have a few days of being in the presence of my kids and my family. Not doing. Not juggling. Not hurrying. Just some time to really listen to them. To play. To read one too many books because it is their favorite thing in the world.

So when you are in the circle of friends or family today, leave your smart phone in the car. Leave it in another room. Turn it off for once. Talk to people. Interact. Enjoy being together and fully present, giving people your thoughts and attention.

Be fully present today, because we may not have tomorrow.

  2. I 100% agree with this article!! I was just saying the same thing the other day to my husband! ;) We shouldn't take this time with our little ones for granted because time flies by so quickly and you don't want to miss out on a single second. :)

  3. This is so true. I am so guilty of losing myself in the smart phone. I know I had better put it down, because their childhood is passing right before my very eyes. We need to be reminded of what's important. All too soon, our babies will be lost in their own forms of social media and won't have time for us......

    1. Good point, if we're not present for them now, we can't expect them to be when they have grown up. It's so important to not loose that connection, a face-to-face connection that Facebook can never provide! :)
