Water Painting!

Are you looking for ways to keep your toddlers busy and creative outdoors? Don't like big messes?  Try water painting! This is officially one of my toddler's favorite things to do on a hot day. All you need is some brushes in various sizes, colored paper, lots of water, and asphalt/porch. As you can see, she's really into it. It's best to keep kids in the shade away from direct sunlight and to give them a bottle of water to sip on. A few rocks can keep the paper from being carried away by the breeze (if you're fortunate enough to have a breeze in the first place).

White paper is also fine, but of course colored construction paper is more fun. We actually let ours dry and she uses it over and over again. This fun activity is great for indoors too, but outdoors they can have fun 'painting' surfaces with water - they can paint the porch, the fence, your front steps, all with water - hours of fun and it dries fast and can be done all over again! Just imagine the time it will buy you without having to give them endless things to do. This is great when I'm trying to get some work done from home.

If you would do it with them, you can paint the alphabet with water, teach numbers, basic drawing skills, and anything else you can come up with.

What's your favorite mess-free toddler activity?
