29

I was born today, twenty nine years ago. While I love your birthday wishes, it's not why I'm posting about it!

The last time I celebrated my birthday with friends was when I turned 25. Somehow it all felt so silly. People I love and that matter to me came over. But I just felt like I spent the whole evening running back and forth to the kitchen, serving food. I didn't even talk to people, save for a few words that were exchanged. Now, I would rather just spend some time with my husband and the kids, even if it doesn't involve anything special - it really makes my day.

I certainly do not feel like I'm twenty nine. And what is that supposed to feel like anyway? I'm stuck somewhere at twenty three, that's probably what my age will feel like for a long time. I have a new found appreciation for the elderly because the older I get, the more I realize that while our body ages outwardly, our soul really doesn't. Just because I may look like I'm sixty when I turn sixty, I know I'm not going to 'feel old'.

I have a lot to learn as a mom and a wife, but I'm really enjoying this time of being 'almost 30'. The time of raising little ones, the hard work day in and day out. Every day feels really worth it. These little ones make it worth every minute!

  1. Happy Birthday! I feel the same, when you get older birthday parties don't matter anymore, i guess what i learned being younger and older, is i became more of a giver than receiving. I have more fun, making, baking, cooking, giving that something to someone else especially knowing that they really need it.

  2. I know what you mean about getting older. My grandpa is in his late 70s, and he's balding, going deaf, and going blind, but he has the energy and mindset of a thirty-something! He does the yard work, plays racquetball, and still runs his own business! I look at myself and think, "When did I get this old?" But then I think about him and I just hope that I still feel that young when I'm his age!

    Also, happy birthday. ;)

    1. :) Same here. For my husband's birthday, we left our 3 year old with grandma and went out with our newborn. This Friday is a big deal because we're leaving our 3 year old and 10 month old with grandma and going out for a couple of hours just by ourselves! Woohoo! I've been waiting for it all year ;)

I turned 30 this year in june and just had my baby 4 weeks ago so i can relate to you. before i wanted big celebrations, the more the merrier , however now my thinking has changed, my birthdays will now mean a day to be glad that I have been given another year to enjoy this life and I would want to spend it only with those who I couldn't live without: my family :) happy belated birthday by the way :) I love that you spent quality time with hubby too, very important not to forget to keep working on our relationships :)

  6. Happy belated birthday! I just celebrated my 25ht on 9/30 (yay Libras!) and I completely understand what you mean about just sharing it with family. My mother & grandmother came to spend the day with us and it was great-no big fanfare, just lots of love and laughs :)

  7. Well, happy belated birthday! I am the exact same way. When I turned 30 a few months ago, I could not believe it. I didn't feel 30 and I still don't! I think I will have a 24 year old trapped inside for a long time! =) Cheers to "the fountain of youth", because that is as close to it as one can get!
