Pocket Purifier Review & Giveaway {CLOSED}

If you are a parent, you'll understand what I mean when I say 'never-endless mess'. It seems as though no matter what my daughter is doing, she will manage to get everything around her dirty. I am a huge fan of non-toxic green cleaners, they're in use every hour around here. But during flu season (which will be back shortly, summer flies), it is great to have something you can use to quickly disinfect surfaces. I wish I had this when my baby was putting everything in her mouth and licking things like the computer mouse. Now that she is older this will be great in flu season for door knobs, the phone that she likes to use (a corded home phone), the keyboard that she gets her hands on. Speaking of the keyboard, because my husband and I share one, I think we exchange germs a lot - and not just the good ones! We were sent the black Pocket Purifier from Purely Products to test out.

Ease of use: The Pocket Purifier is super easy to use. All you need is 10 to 15 seconds of UVC light on the surface where you want to kill germs. Hospitals use the same technology to sanitize surgical instruments. What it does is kill the DNA of bacteria, viruses, and pathogens, destroying their ability to multiply. Now, I am personally not germophobic, and our house is not spotlessly clean. I let my baby get dirty when she plays and I think that is good for the immune system. Being sick occasionally is also good for the immune system. But this will help prevent passing it on from one person to another, which can be especially important if you have infants and newborns in the house.

Value: You can buy the pocket Purifier for anywhere from $20 to $30. It comes with one UVC bulb (9,000 hours), but no batteries (4 AA).

How is this green: Sanitize without using bleach or other chemicals? Yes, that's rather green in my book! Especially handy for children's toys! While you can get away with chemicals elsewhere (at the expense of ruining your indoor air), your child's favorite toys and eating surfaces are no place for toxins.

Design: This little gadget looks pretty sleek. It may be mistaken for a photo camera on occasion, it is pretty inconspicuous. So if you whip it out at the restaurant to use on your less-than-sanitary utensils, nobody would probably notice. If they did, they'd think it's a spy gadget of some sort. It also has a built in flashlight for convenience.

Company: The maker of the Pocket Purifier, Purely Products, donates a portion of their sales proceeds to Diaperlove. This non-profit provides diapers to families in need who cannot afford them. It is a great cause to support, and though I think reusable cloth diapers would be a better use of the resources and healthier for the babies, even disposables are extremely helpful to those who can't afford them and may not have a washer in order to cloth diaper full time. so every time you buy something from Purely Products, you're supporting Diaperlove and putting a clean, dry diaper on a baby!

One Eco-Babyz reader will win a Pocket Purifier in their choice of color!

  5. I love the pink and learned that the pocket purifier is Lightweight and convenient, it sanitizes surfaces and objects with the same UV-C light that sterilizes surgical instruments. Ultraviolet light and nanotechnology eliminate 99.9% of germs that cause colds and flu, plus e-coli, salmonella, mold, fungus and MRSA (staph). amypugmire@live.com
