Why Steer Clear of This Food

I don't know about you, but I'm not crazy about the idea of eating something that has pesticides as part of it's DNA, not just sprayed on top but part of the genetic makeup. But guess what? We're most likely eating it. Probably every day. In crackers, cereal, cookies, bread, juices, and nearly every other processed food. Yes, I'm talking about corn.

As Michael Reilly writes: "new analysis of data released by Monsanto pried from Monsanto's lawyers' cold dead hands by a tag-team of legal experts at Greenpeace and other groups suggests there may be something to the idea that we shouldn't be eating maize that's had its DNA messed with." In fact, research conducted on rats showed unusual concentrations of hormones and other compounds in their blood and urine. It suggests that each strain of corn tested impaired liver and kidney function (along with other issues). That's just the result of a 90 day study folks! Most Americans eat this day in and day out for years

Personally, how do we steer clear of genetically modified corn here at Eco-Babyz? Simply put, we don't buy anything that has any corn derivative in the ingredients unless it is organic. Genetically modified ingredients are banned from organic food. Not that there aren't loopholes, there probably are, but this is still your best way to avoid GM corn. Organic corn is hard to find (as the infographic below illustrates). It happens to be easy for us to avoid it since we stopped buying most processed foods and stick to real food (one-ingredient) or make our own things from scratch (baked goods).

As if it wasn't bad enough that genetically modified corn is in everything, there is more to the story and this Corn Infographic illustrates it well...

  1. I really believe the first step to getting control of our food again is to get the government out of the food business. It's way past time for the Federal govt to stop choosing winners and losers in the food marketplace and let consumers choose instead. The heavy use of corn syrup in everything is partly because the govt has banned the sale of imported sugar in the U.S. Not only does this artificially increase the price of sugar (making corn syrup a much cheaper option) it has driven several candy manufacturers out of the U.S. (losing us manufacturing jobs) and it deprives third world sugar cane growers a valuable market for their product.

    1. Agree with you 100%! Government regulation doesn't help, just makes the problems worse because there is so much corruption there. I'll take some sugar over heavily processed HFCS any day!

  2. There is a global depopulation agenda going on, it is a biological and chemical attack to decrease population size. Government gets what they want.

  3. We also avoid processed stuff and corn derivitives are a big reason. Even corn fed livestock. It makes it really hard though. Most derivitives make my toddler sick and no one gets it! Genetic analysis shows how most of us are practically made of corn. Monoculture breeds monofoods and it does no one any favors. Not to mention the corn industry bred the soy industry.

    1. I hear you on that! It is really hard to avoid sometimes because the food chain is saturated with this stuff. Most people don't get it at all, when I don't give something to my toddler say at a party, they ask why and I tell them. Some people will think I'm a nut, some will actually listen and educate themselves. But I never push unless they ask :)

    1. That's what is so sad, that regular people, parents like you and I are kept in the dark about it, because it isn't talked about in popular media. I would never know this if it wasn't for the internet and now that I do know, I want to tell everyone! I am sad to see friends and relatives seriously ill from the SAD (Standard American Diet) full of genetically modified corn and soy. Get the word out! :) Thanks for commenting!

  11. This post astounded me, and let me feeling very upset about corn, and the tampering that is being done to it. So many products use this corn, individuals consume it, but so do our pets, as it is in a lot of pet and animal food. This is so horrifying.

  12. great information, i believe everyone should know what they are eating and yes this has been going on for a long time now.. people don't realize the chemicals farmers use now not only to get rid of pest but because they are growing in mass quinities , and its not just in corn, its very much in our meats we eat every day...... this is a huge topic...

  13. Oh my goodness! I've heard nothing of this. I can't believe this is even legal. Everything we eat is killing us and most likely is the reason that I know way too many people with cancer. So scary. Thank you for providing me with the knowledge.
