Cha Cha Chia Chunks of Energy Review

When we tried Chunks of Energy for the first time back in November, we instantly fell in love. Now we are really excited to try their new flavor, the Cha Cha Chia. This one is raw, USDA organic, and vegan! Not that we adhere too strictly to any of those, but it is a lot healthier than your average snack. With Chunks of Energy you can cut out candy from your diet, because this tastes better and is better than candy! Nothing artificial, just pure ingredients that will give you an energy boost and satisfy your sweet tooth.

Taste: The Cha Cha Chia chunks taste amazing, I think it is one of those flavors that mostly anyone will like. This might not be your cup of tea if you don't like sesame seeds, but other than that, there is nothing particular that would 'offend' anyone. I love the creamy combination of cocoa butter with crunchy sesame seeds and cashews. The dates make it sweet enough, but not overpowering. You'll need a drink with these though, be prepared with some water, unsweetened iced tea, or any dairy/non-dairy milk.

Nutrition: You can take a look at the ingredients and nutrition facts here. Don't let the high percentage of iron fool you, it is well balanced out by the natural properties of dates that regulate the digestive system. I love that all the ingredients are organic and unprocessed. Nutritionally, this is not something you would substitute a meal with. Rather it is to be eaten as a treat and a snack when you need extra energy that you will burn off anyway. Though it is tempting to eat it when you are idling at the computer too!

Value: The Cha Cha Chia are less expensive when you buy bulk. We received a complimentary 5 lb bag, which would have cost $7.60 per pound. That bag lasted us about three weeks, maybe even less. Primarily because I would eat a lot of it, I could not stop! The 10 lb bag is less expensive though at $5.80 per pound. I estimate that for a family of four it would last one month if each person eats a couple of pieces each day. This is not as cheap as some organic snack bars we buy, but this wins over by taste and nutrition big time. Also, we used to buy candy at a local Russian store, now they got more expensive at $7 - $8 per pound, so this is way better than that candy. Not to mention that most Russian candy is made with sketchy ingredients and hydrogenated blah.

How we eat it: As a perfect anytime snack, we eat the Cha Cha Chia Chunks everywhere we go. I take them with me to the playground so that I can keep up with my toddler! These are great for short and long road trips. I like having them with tea instead of candy. My husband takes them along to his physically demanding job. Another reason to like them? They are made by a small local company in western Massachusetts. They know their ingredients and stay true to their mission of bringing the best to the customer. Definitely a plus!
