Cell phone radiation? There is an app for that!

Well, an app that the average person has no access to as of now. Tawkon, an Israeli startup, developed an app that monitors radiation emitted from  your mobile phone. Good news, right? Not so fast. According to TechCrunch, Apple is not crazy about approving this app and the likes of it might rather be seen on a Blackberry or Android.

So how does this handy application work? Its "Algorithmic magic analyzes your phone’s dynamic SAR levels, location, environmental factors, as well as unique smart-phone capabilities such as bluetooth, accelerometer, proximity sensors, GPS and compass. The level of radiation a person is exposed to during calls is determined by analyzing several dynamic parameters, including the impact of environmental factors such as distance from cellular towers, network and weather condition, terrain, antenna’s proximity from the body, antenna orientation (if the user is holding the phone vertically or horizontally) and travel speed."

Personally, I understand why most people would be wary of such an application. Most people have never read or heard about the Swedish studies on cell phone radiation that made conclusions such as "People who started mobile phone use before the age of 20 had more than five-fold increase in glioma". Most people resort to saying "But it is non-ionizing radiation". In my book, any type of radiation does something, that's a no brainer (pun intended).

But, alas, what do I care. I don't use a cell phone anymore. I feel great without those migraines!

  2. It was easy! I was ready to try anything to make my migraines go away, I was desperate. I also realized that a cell phone is not a necessity. I have a home phone and we do just fine with that, I think it slows down the pace of life a bit :) We do have a prepaid phone in the car that's for emergencies (it's always turned off when we don't use it).
